Cambridgeshire (abbreviated Cambs.) is a ceremonial, historic and non-metropolitan county in the East of England government statistical region, and popularly known as one of the three counties of East Anglia. The largest city is Peterborough, followed by the county town of Cambridge.

It is bordered by Lincolnshire to the north, Norfolk to the north-east, Suffolk to the east, Essex and Hertfordshire to the south, and Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire to the west. The historic county with land from two historic counties, Northamptonshire's Soke of Peterborough and Huntingdonshire, form the ceremonial county.

Before 1974, the administrative counties were called Cambridgeshire and Isle of Ely and Huntingdon and Peterborough with merging under the Local Government Act 1972 in 1974, with a non-metropolitan county created. It was reformed to a two tier non-metropolitan system of the county and districts of the City of Cambridge, East Cambridgeshire, Fenland, Huntingdonshire, South Cambridgeshire and the City of Peterborough; the latter later became a unitary authority area creating a separate defined area for the ceremonial and non-metropolitan counties.
